Proverbs 27:17
Me and My Friends is an activity we used when studying some Proverbs relating to friendship. One of my favorite Proverbs on this subject is 27:17: As iron sharpens iron, so a man sharpens the countenance of his friend. We all need friends — friends that will make us better. Not just someone that always agrees with everything we say. We need friends that will be honest and loving at the same time.
I took a sharpening steel and a large knife for a visual aid to class because that’s what I think of when I read this verse. The sharpening steel doesn’t really sharpen a knife. Every time a knife is used, its blade gets a little bit misshapen. By running it across a sharpening steel, the knife will stay sharper longer. This is how a good friend should be — help us to stay strong.
I encouraged the students in class to be each other’s best friends. To emphasize this, we took a group picture that they glued to the inside of their little book and they autographed each other’s books. You might choose to use this booklet in a different way. You could have individual pictures of the students to glue in each one’s book (that was my first idea but my camera was not cooperating). You could have the students draw pictures of all the kids in the class.
This activity is very simple and would make a great take home activity but I put it in the Books of Poetry Project Folder.
