What a wonderful hymn Dare to Stand Like Joshua is. CM Robinson used exciting stories from the old testament to remind us of the responsible we all have to stand up for God. Not only for us to stand up for God but to train our families to as well. This is also a favorite of one of my students. All the kids like it but this little guy LOVES it. We sing it every time. Sometimes, I hear groans from the rest of the class but we sing it anyway.
I don’t remember which coloring book I used for these pictures but I’m sure most larger coloring books would have the necessary pictures. You need one of the Israelites walking through the wilderness, crossing the red sea, crossing the Jordan and, of course, Joshua making his speech about choosing who you will but he will serve the Lor.
When making any flip chart, always put the words on the back of the cards. That’s what makes the flip chart so much more convenient than a regular book. To add the words to the back, stack the cards in order and write the words that go with the first picture on the back of the last card in the stack. Move the first picture to the back and write the words for the second card on the back of the card on the back of the stack (which is the first card). Keep doing this until all the words have been written.
Now, you can sing the song while showing the card without having to flip the card around to what it says. One other important thing to do is number the cards. There’s nothing like dropping the stack and having to put the cards in order with all those eager eyes waiting “patiently”. If the cards are numbered, it’s a breeze.
I have seen many flip charts connected with rings. I assume it is to keep the charts together. In my experience, they do not hold up to wear and tear and one or more rings always ends up missing. I prefer to store my flip charts in a ziploc baggie. Everything is kept safe and there aren’t any bulky rings causing difficulties.
