We sing a lot in Bible class. The kids love to sing. I love to sing. It’s a good way to reinforce or review a Bible lesson. I teach my students hymns that they are likely to sing in the regular worship period. Sometimes the hymns we sing have words and phrases that the kids just don’t get. We’ve all heard the story about the little boy that thought “Low, in the grave he lay” was “Low, in the gravy lay.” Teaching common hymns in Bible class just makes sense. There are so many good hymns out there (old and new) that have wonderful thoughts about God and our service to Him.
At a young age, it is a good idea to have a visual to help teach the song or hymn. Sometimes just a picture is all that’s needed. Sometimes a group of pictures can help. I want to share 3 such song flip charts with you.
God Will Take Care of You by Civilla Martin
Dare To Stand Like Joshua by CM Robinson
This Is My Father’s World by Maltbie Babcock
I can’t share the PDFs for these but I can tell you the source of the pictures. All of them except This Is My Father’s World came from coloring books that can be bought today. Here are a couple I use all the time. If you don’t have them, they would be a great help in creating all kinds of visuals. Trust and Obey and God Will Take Care of You came from the one on the right. I don’t remember which book Dare To Stand Like Joshua came from. This Is My Father’s World came from the picture collection on PrintMaster Gold.
Thanks so much! I was looking for books we used as kids back in the 60’s, with no luck. No reason why I can’t make them. Thanks for the Inspiration.
Thanks for sharing. There aren’t many ideas on the internet for illustrated Bible songs. If you know more sites, let me know.
Great ideas! I just did a 23 Psalm flipbook and it is amazing how quickly they can memorize.
