This Is My Father’s World is a beautiful hymn written by Maltbie Babcock. I remember learning this hymn in my second grade class in a public school in the Houston area. Imagine a teacher attempting to teach this or any other hymn in a public school today.
I made the flip chart many years ago when the internet was still young and my computer skills were young as well. I just took beautiful pictures that I thought illustrated the words, overlaid the words and printed on cardstock.
When making any flip chart, always put the words on the back of the cards. That’s what makes the flip chart so much more convenient than a regular book. To add the words to the back, stack the cards in order and write the words that go with the first picture on the back of the last card in the stack. Move the first picture to the back and write the words for the second card on the back of the card on the back of the stack (which is the first card). Keep doing this until all the words have been written.
Now, you can sing the song while showing the card without having to flip the card around to what it says. One other important thing to do is number the cards. There’s nothing like dropping the stack and having to put the cards in order with all those eager eyes waiting “patiently”. If the cards are numbered, it’s a breeze.
I have seen many flip charts connected with rings. I assume it is to keep the charts together. In my experience, they do not hold up to wear and tear and one or more rings always ends up missing. I prefer to store my flip charts in a ziploc baggie. Everything is kept safe and there aren’t any bulky rings causing difficulties.
This is my Father’s world, and to my list’ning ears, all nature sings, and round me rings the music of the spheres.
This is my Father’s world, I rest me in the thought of rocks and trees, of skies and seas — His hand the wonders wrought.
This is my Father’s world, the birds their carols raise, the morning light, the lily white, declare their maker’s praise.
This is my Father’s world, He shines in all that’s fair; In the rustling grass I hear Him pass, He speaks to me ev’rywhere.
This is my Father’s world, O let me ne’er forget that though the wrong seems oft so strong, God is the Ruler yet.
This is my Father’s world, in battle we must trod; Jesus who died shall be satisfied, the kingdom turns back to God.
This morning before the sun came up, I walked out our back patio and onto the golf course. The beautiful Superstition Mountains, our little pond, the rabbits and hummingbirds all declared, “This Is My Father’s World”. The lyrics danced in my head…God is SO amazing. So, just read each word of the hymn to refresh my memory. God bless!
Sounds like a beautiful way to wake up. Thanks for sharing.
