Trust and Obey by John Sammis is one I remember singing in Bible classes when I was young. In fact, I didn’t realize it was a hymn that adults sang until I was much older. I love to hear children belting out in when a congregation sings it. It has such a simple yet profound message. It can be used during any Bible class but especially one where the main characters are challenged in their obedience to God.
The pictures for this flip chart came from the Thru-the-Bible coloring book published by Standard. There are two levels of coloring books and I believe I took pictures from both levels. If you don’t have these books, be sure to order them. They are a wonderful resource for modern day as well as Bible times pictures.
When making any flip chart, always put the words on the back of the cards. That’s what makes the flip chart so much more convenient than a regular book. To add the words to the back, stack the cards in order and write the words that go with the first picture on the back of the last card in the stack. Move the first picture to the back and write the words for the second card on the back of the card on the back of the stack (which is the first card). Keep doing this until all the words have been written.
Now, you can sing the song while showing the card without having to flip the card around to what it says. One other important thing to do is number the cards. There’s nothing like dropping the stack and having to put the cards in order with all those eager eyes waiting “patiently”. If the cards are numbered, it’s a breeze.
I have seen many flip charts connected with rings. I assume it is to keep the charts together. In my experience, they do not hold up to wear and tear and one or more rings always ends up missing. I prefer to store my flip charts in a ziploc baggie. Everything is kept safe and there aren’t any bulky rings causing difficulties.
When we walk with the Lord. In the light of His way,
What a glory He sheds on our way.
As we do His good will, He abides with us still,
and with all who will trust and obey.
Trust and obey, for there’s no other way,
to be happy in Jesus,
But to trust and obey.
I love this flip chart! I am thankful I found your website. Our three and four year olds our studying Solomon, Rehoboam, Jeroboam, Elijah, Elisha, Naaman etc. this quarter in Bible Class. Trust and obey fits perfect as part of the overall theme. This Song Flip Chart is perfect for the little ones.
