This page is devoted to sharing the actual lesson plans I used while teaching Paul to a preschool class in a Bible class setting. I also throw in a few personal thoughts along the way.

Paul — An Introduction
Well, let’s just try to forget that our Bible class Sunday AM never happened. I wasn’t ready for it mentally or physically. I thought I had at least gotten the flip chart prepared. When I began reading it to the kids it became obvious that it was all wrong. I don’t know how I got all the pictures mixed up that bad, but I did. The text was on the back of the wrong picture. Ugh. The only thing that worked well was the magnetic puzzle. Thank you Jill.
Well, we muddled through with some of our generic activities and hoped things would be better tonight. The flip chart is fixed, the attendance chart is ready and I’m almost finished with the application activity.
We begin our study of Paul. We will study the following:

My lesson plan is:

Magnetic Puzzle — The Conversion of Saul
Sing: Saul/Paul. The words are:
Saul! What are you doing, Saul?
Why are you hurting people that love Jesus our Lord?
Saul! What are you doing, Saul?
Arise and be baptized and live for Jesus our Lord.
Paul! What are you doing, Paul?
You’ve changed your name and now you live for Jesus our Lord?
Paul! What are you doing, Paul?
You’re teaching others how to live for Jesus our Lord.
Introduce the idea of Paul writing letters to the churches by presenting each child with a letter (paper and envelope). Each letter has the following written on it:
To all the students in the pre-school class,
Greeting. I know that you are being good boys and girls. I want you to know that God loves you very much. Please do what God wants you to do.
In Christian Love,
Ms Diana
Allow each child to open his letter and read it. Talk to the kids about how Paul would write letters to the churches praising them for doing good, telling them about God’s love and begging them to live better. Take the letters back up to be used for review in another class.
Paul Flip Chart
Pass out the scrolls. Let each child draw or write letters on their scroll. Talk to them about how Paul would write his letters on scrolls not paper and envelopes. This is mentioned in the flip chart, so it won’t be foreign to them. Let them take the scrolls home at the end of the class. The scrolls are made of two 8 1/2X11 pieces of off white paper glued together on the short inch (overlapping about an inch). The sticks that the paper are rolled up on are made of a brown construction paper rolled up along the long side to make a tube about an inch wide. The rolled up sticks are hot glued on the ends of the scrolls. the scrolls are rolled up and ready for the kids to write their letters.
Attendance chart: — This month it is a picture of Paul writing letters. Each class session they will get to add a scroll (made from a piece of off white paper (2″X4″)) to the picture.
Sing songs: The Bright Red Crab and Bumbling Bumble Bee or others of their choosing.

Paul — His Conversion
We just taught this lesson in detail to the kids this summer in VBS. Of course, mine are small enough that they won’t remember much, but it is fresh on my mind.
My lesson plan is:
Sing: Jesus Loves Me and the The B-I-B-L-E with sign language. Also sing My God Is So Big and God Made The Round Round Sun. I don’t know if I have the “official” words to My God Is So Big. I’ve always sung it this way:
My God is so big,so strong and so mighty
There’s nothing my God cannot do.

The mountains are His,
The valleys are His,
The stars are His handiwork too.

Review last week’s lesson using the letters from class. The first page of the popup book this month has a mailbox that the letter will fit into. Let the kids put their letter in the mailbox.

Paul Teaches About Jesus
Tonight’s lesson will be about Paul’s first journey. We’ll talk about how Paul and Barnabas went on the journey to teach about Jesus. We’ll talk about how some people listened and were happy with what they heard, while others got very angry. We’ll talk about how Paul did miracles (specifically made the lame man walk on the first journey).

Review the past 2 lessons with the popup book. I finally got the first 2 pages of this book ready for class. The first page is about Paul’s letters and the second is about Saul’s conversion and changing his name to Paul.

Do the Snip n tell about the lame man walking. The book actually has this being used with the story of Peter healing the lame man, but tonight it will be used with Paul.
Attendance chart: Each child will add another scroll to their picture of Paul.
Let the children pretend “baptizing” the plastic man (I think he’s technically Moses). There is a plastic shoe box sized container filled with water that we use for this.

Paul and the Philippian Jailer
Our next two lessons will be on conversions while Paul was on his 2nd trip. He met the Philippian Jailer while he was imprisoned in Philippi and then met Lydia in the same city. I want to emphasize the attitude Paul and Silas had while in prison and the fact that God took care of them and saw to it they were no longer in prison.

Paul is Bitten by a Snake
This is the last lesson on Paul. As I question the kids during class about Paul, they are actually able to tell me several things about Paul.
Next month we will be learning about the Church (worship, salvation and organization).

I would love to know the tune to the Saul/Paul song. I am redesigning the preschool curriculum of our congregation, Killen church of Christ in Killen, AL, and looking for a song to go with that lesson.
