Singing Walls

This is a blast from the past. I saw a question on Facebook about decorating walls in the baby class. I wanted to share these I had done about 10 years ago but couldn’t find the link on this blog. I realized I had posted it on a website that is no longer valid. I’m sharing it again here. You’ll have to keep in mind that this was 10 years ago. Polaroid pictures are not the norm anymore — although they were very convenient at times. My photography options were pretty shabby as well. The idea, though, are good ones and the babies and I enjoyed them in our classroom for about a year.

Each of the four walls are decorated to illustrate a favorite song. The same idea could be used with any song your class enjoys singing.

“I Look Out My Window”. The “window” is made from paper with cloth curtains to give the illusion of a real window. Things we sing about in the song are positioned outside the window.

“This Little Light Of Mine”. I had a very skinny section of wall that this one fit in nicely. The candle is 4 feet tall. The words are very hard to see. Yellow words on a white wall — not a good idea. You don’t even need words. Babies can’t read. But the words may help teachers remember the song being illustrated.

“Jesus Loves The Little Children”. This one uses art work found in Palma Smiley’s Jesus Loves the Children lesson.

“Jesus Loves Me”. I had a huge wall to fill. This one could be spread out over this large area or brought down to a much smaller scale. The birds are from one of Palma Smiley’s books. I just copied them using a variety of colors. Each child in the class had their picture taken (polaroid back then) and placed in the frame between the birds. I actually made a frame so the pictures could be switched out as children moved in and out of the class.

Here’s a closeup. Sorry for the blur but this was 10 years ago:

That’s a great question. I only put words on the wall for the benefit of parents or others who might peek in. There is no need to for the benefit of the babies.

Your comments and teachings are very helpful. Thank you for using your talents to help the church grow and bring glory to God.
