What better way to teach and review a Bible lesson than to sing. That’s what Paul was talking about in Colossians 3:16: “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.”
The teacher’s manual for God’s Prophets in The New Living Bible Lessons had suggested hymns to sing for each lesson. Along with a few that I thought fit the lessons, we could sing the entire class time. I have found that it can be difficult to remember what songs to sing. It can also be time consuming getting the hymn books out and getting the kids to the correct page. To alleviate these problems, I made a song book with the songs I wanted to sing during the quarter. It can be kept in the large pocket in their project folder. For the students just learning to read, following along in a hymn with all the music notations can be confusing. Since this age hasn’t begun to read music, I find it easier to have only the words on the page. All you have to do is print it out and put it together.
The first two hymns in this song book are the ones I really, really want the students to become familiar with. It goes hand in hand with the memory work for this quarter — Isaiah 53:2-9.
A few of the songs are some I wrote and can be found on this website.
This song book was used while studying God’s Prophets in The New Living Bible Lesson series. The project folder we made during that quarter along with all the other activities we did can be found here: God’s Prophets Project Folder. This song book can be stored in the pocket found in the project folder.
i agree! i try to make a paper songbook for each semester. The kids in 1-3 cant really read a real song book anyways and it allows them to take it home with them with their binders every semester. Thanks so much for this link! i appreciate the time you put into things to make it easier for us!
