The following activities were designed to be used in the stations mentioned in the Life of Christ lesson plans. During these lessons, the students attempt to memorize 6 lists or passages of scripture. Doing these activities do not ensure memorization but they allow the student to spend some time manipulating the words and phrases they are trying to memorize. Also aiding in memorization are the Life of Christ Project Folders.
Learn To Pray Like Jesus Did
What better way to learn to pray than to use the prayer Jesus used to teach His disciples to pray. This activity gives the student the opportunity to choose various phrases that will help them compose their own prayer.
One side of the folder has Jesus’ prayer divided in 6 parts. Each part has a pocket with 2 or 3 similar phrases to the original.
Along the other side of the folder are colored squares (coordinated with the ones on the left and the type on the cards so everything is easily put back in its place) where the student can place the card they have chosen.
The following 6 pictures are close ups of each of the sections and their cards.
On the back of the folder is a pocket with copy sheets. After the students choose the phrases they would like to use in their prayer, they can then copy it down on the copy sheet. They can take these home to use as starting places to broaden their current prayers or they can store them in the pocket of their project folder to refer back to later. Each time the student does this activity, he will come up with a different prayer.
The Lord’s Prayer — Put It In Order
This is a much simpler activity than the one above. It is gives the student the opportunity to put the phrases in order.
Cards with the various phrases in the prayer are stored in a pocket on the back of the folder. The cards have a small magnet attached to the back.
Inside the folder I traced the cards which may make it too simple an activity for older kids but is great for those who need a little confidence booster. A paper clip is glued inside and then the folder is laminated.
The student puts the prayer in order giving him the opportunity to kinesthetically and visually spend time with the words of Jesus.
LOVE the pop up book idea. Do you have patterns for the figures that you could share? Thank you.
