Too many times we hear that everything will be alright. It’s not true. Everything is not going to be alright for a lot of people. Situations may improve for now. Hurts may heal. Losses may be regained. But that is only temporary. For so many people, things will not be alright.
Every day there are, on average, 8000 deaths in the US. Every single day, just in our country, there are 8000 people who, many of them, most of them, have found that it is not alright.
Like the rich man in Luke 16, they would give anything to be able to come back and tell us that it’s not going to be alright. That this world is not all there is. That God is real, and He demands complete devotion to Himself by those He created. That doing the things that we think make us good people is not what pleases Him. That unless we turn away from our self-centered lives and look to Him, we will end up like they are. Like the rich man. Lost for eternity.
Of the approximately 8000 people who will die today, how many will find out that everything is not alright? No specific numbers are offered but Jesus paints a clear visual of the multitude that will discover that everything is not alright as He admonishes everyone to choose wisely.
“Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.” (Matthew 7:13-14)
Few will choose wisely but, in the end, all will come to know that all along, it was the narrow, difficult path that led to “everything will be alright.”
